There's so much going on in life, even in a Zen life, it can be hard to fit in an exercise routine. Yet exercise is so important that we really ought to find time each week to perform some physical activity.
There are several reasons why physical activity is so good for you. As we know, it helps your body parts work better, especially your heart and lungs. It will improve your stamina so that you'll be able to accomplish more and more tasks. You'll have more energy and will feel much better in your day to day activities. Exercising is also good for your mental health. Increased fitness helps the blood flows to the brain which of course helps your brain work better. Want to be more effective in your tasks - then exercise more. It may even free up some time for more exercise. It's possible too to become addicted to exercise! You may wonder how this is possible. When you exercise strenuously your hypothalamus and pituitary gland produce endorphins which have a similar effect on the brain to opiates in that they bring about a sense of well-being. In the long term, exercise reduces the probability that you'll develop certain types of cancer and other serious diseases such as diabetes and osteoporosis. ![]() It's recommended that you partake in 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day. Remember though, that even if you are not able to do this, any increase in exercise that you take can have health benefits. One of the easiest ways to exercise is to try to fit it into your daily life. Can you take the stairs rather than the lift? Are you able to park your car further away from work and walk a bit more each day? Could you go more Zen and take public transport? The following video shows how to stretch in the car! There are also activities that you can do with the children to introduce exercise into your life and there life. It's a great way of setting a good example. Why not go for a walk after dinner, especially in summer? Exercise is very important for health and well-being therefore it's essential that we do what we can to exercise as much as we can. |
