The Winter Olympics 2010 are now taking place in Vancouver Canada. Connection Zen will be hosting a whole series of blog posts this week celebrating this event.Chamonix, France, was the host of the very first Olympic games in 1924 which featured Cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, ski jumping, and speed skating. Today, the event contains many more sports and many more athletes who will be competing to win. It takes a lot of courage, hard work and dedication to be able to compete at the Winter Olympics. An athlete must prove themselves to be amongst the best of their fellow countrymen, to be able to raise the necessary funds to complete and find time to train. It's not easy, and those who make it deserve already to be congratulated to have made it so far. Some may argue that it's not altogether Zen to compete against others, that taking part in an activity where the sole goal is to beat others is not construction. Whilst this is a valid viewpoint, it's important to remember that for an athlete to be in a position to compete against others, they must first work by themselves to improve their form and skills. It's a process of personal discovery and improvement that can be very Zen. ![]() In addition, there are many sports in the Olympics that are team sports such as Ice Hockey, that require co-operation within the team. ConnectionZen wishes all the best to the athletes who are involved in the games, to Vancouver and Whistler who are hosting the games and to all whom will be enjoying watching the activities.
