India is a country that is experiencing rapid economic, political and population growth and it's clearly known for many of the challenges it faces. Yet, India has a lot to teach the Western world.Did you know that India has recently elected an Italian born Roman-Catholic party leader in a country that's 80% hindu? Contrast this with the US and the EU that are increasingly inward looking and rejecting their multiculturalism. Is it possible that a confident India, with an open mind will be much better positioned in the 21st century than the West? Shashi Tharoor speaking at TED Global in India in 2009 suggests that India's soft-power, its ability through culture and politics to shape the world will make it an increasingly interesting country. Check out Shashi's TED presentation. Western countries risk being increasingly insular and not seeing the speed at which they are surpassed by countries such as India that are outward looking. They will increasingly be able to point at themselves as a good example in the world as opposed to countries such as the US. How do you think the rise of India will affect you?
