Show your awareness of environmental issues and turn off your lights on Saturday! In a global show of the need to tackle climate change, ordinary people like you and me will be turning off their lights for one hour.
Earth hour was first held in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 when 2.2 million homes and businesses shut of their lights for the first time. It has now become a world-wide phenomenon with people throughout the world participating.
In 2005, the world used 3,418 Terrawatt-hours of electricity for lighting. During Earth hour, if 6 million people were to turn off their lights, then that would save 3 Terrawatt-hours of electricity, saving 150,000 kgs of CO₂. That’s a lot of gas.
Climate change is happening now, and it’s important for each person to do two things to make their contribution to tackling this issue. The first is to reduce their own carbon footprint as best they can, and the second is to raise as much awareness as they can of the issue.
Add your support for Earth hour by joining with others to: make a pledge to participate, become a facebook fan and add a Twibbon to your twitter avatar.
During Earth hour, you can contribute to building awareness buy turning out the lights in your home and business. So join us for Earth hour, then join ConnectionZen.
