Following on from yesterday's blog post about how children should be bored, the author would like to give her own personal experience. As the mother of two young children, her decision is not to allow her children to watch television. At all.
There are Wiis and PlayStations, but the children never, ever ask to play with them. Instead, they play with their princesses and dolls, lego and blocks and how they do love to draw and colour and paint.
My children are never bored, yet will play on their own, choose their own toys and invent their own stories without the slightest intervention on my part. The TV will remain off.
As for the adults in the house, my husband and I do watch a few hours of TV per week, mainly late in the evening just before going to sleep. That is, if we're not writing on ConnectionZen that is.
I'd like to leave you with a quote that I found:
Children love to be alone because alone is where they know themselves, and where they dream.
