 I just love this quote from Haruki Murakami’s book “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running.” School sports for me was very traumatic and, despite being there for good reasons, thoroughly turned me off physical activity, including running.
Murakami is like many people who begin running as they reach the age of 30. Maybe its the time you realize that you’re loosing your youth, or is it the time when you’re busy with kids and it’s the only exercise you can do?
Running is, for many people, a personal thing - something they can do without the horrors of school sports. Here’s the quote from Haruki Murakami:
“When I was at school I never cared for gym class, and always hates Sports Day. This was because these were forced on me from above. I never could stand being forced to do something I didn’t want to do at a time I didn’t want to do it.
