Disposable diapers have been a revelation for many people, they are easy, convenient and don’t require being stored and washed. So why do millions of parents each year choose cloth diapers?

There are three main disadvantages to disposable diapers. Firstly, they have a large environmental impact. All of the used diapers along with the faeces they contain are placed in landfill sites and will take a long time to decompose. This is not a particularly environmentally friendly solution.

Secondly, disposables are made with chemicals that rub against your baby’s skin. That can make your child uncomfortable, or yourself, knowing that your baby may absorb some of those chemicals.

Thirdly, disposable diapers are not cheap. Cloth nappies, although you do need to clean them, are much less costly than their disposable cousins.

Are you tempted to give cloth a try? You should. Of course, it will take some trial and error before they will work for you, but once you’re over the initial adaption period, you may find that you really rather like them. After all, saving the environment, looking after your child and saving money are all really rather Zen things to do.
